Brighten Your Skin, Erase Pigmentation: Cosmelan & Dermamelan Solutions

Cosmelan and Dermamelan are professional depigmentation treatments designed to address stubborn pigmentation issues, such as melasma, sunspots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. These advanced treatments are highly effective in improving skin tone, reducing discoloration, and enhancing overall skin radiance.

At Primavera Clinic, we specialize in providing these transformative treatments tailored to individual skin needs.

What is Brisbane Cosmelan Peel?

Both Cosmelan and Dermamelan are chemical peel systems developed to treat a wide range of pigmentation disorders. While they share similar active ingredients and mechanisms, Dermamelan is a stronger formulation often recommended for more severe pigmentation concerns.

Cosmelan: Ideal for mild to moderate pigmentation issues, this treatment is effective for melasma, age spots, and uneven skin tone.

Dermamelan: A more intensive depigmentation treatment, Dermamelan is designed for severe and resistant pigmentation cases.

These treatments are suitable for individuals struggling with:

•  Melasma: Hormonal pigmentation often caused by pregnancy or contraceptive use.

•  Post-Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH): Dark spots resulting from acne, injuries, or skin irritation.

•  Sunspots: UV-induced pigmentation that appears as dark patches on sun-exposed areas.

•  Uneven Skin Tone: General discoloration or dullness.

How Do Cosmelan and Dermamelan Work?

These treatments work by targeting the melanin production process in the skin.

Melanin is the pigment responsible for skin color, and its overproduction leads to pigmentation concerns.

Melanin Inhibition: Cosmelan and Dermamelan inhibit tyrosinase, an enzyme involved in melanin synthesis, thereby reducing excessive pigmentation.

Exfoliation: Both treatments promote skin cell turnover, which helps remove existing pigmented cells and reveals a brighter, more even complexion.

Ongoing Maintenance: The treatments include a homecare regimen to maintain results and prevent new pigmentation from forming.

  • Consultation:

Schedule a consultation to assess your skin condition and determine if Cosmelan or Dermamelan is appropriate for you. Discuss your medical history, skincare routine, and any allergies.

    • Discontinue the use of retinoids, exfoliants, AHAs/BHAs, or other strong skin products 5–7 days before the treatment to avoid irritation.

    • Apply sunscreen daily with SPF 30 or higher to protect your skin from UV damage leading up to the treatment. Avoid direct sun exposure, tanning beds, or self-tanning products.

    • Avoid waxing, shaving, or any abrasive treatments on the treatment area for at least 5 days before the peel.

    • Keep your skin well-moisturized and hydrated to prepare it for the peel.

    • Inform your provider of any medications you are taking, especially photosensitizing drugs.

  •  Immediate Post-Treatment:

The skin may appear red or feel tight immediately after the mask application.

Leave the mask on as instructed by your provider (usually 8–12 hours for Cosmelan and 4–6 hours

     for Dermamelan).

    •  Gently wash off the mask using lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser after the prescribed duration.

    • Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 50+ daily, reapplying every 2–3 hours if exposed to the sun. Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks post-treatment.

    Post-Treatment Skincare Regimen:

Follow the post-care routine prescribed by your provider, which may include maintenance creams, gentle cleansers, and moisturizers.

    • Avoid using harsh or active ingredients (e.g., retinoids, AHAs, BHAs) for at least 7–10 days post-treatment or until your provider advises.

    •  Avoid hot showers, saunas, and vigorous exercise that can cause sweating for 3–5 days post-treatment.

    • Avoid swimming in chlorinated water or salt water for 7 days post procedure

    • Avoid putting on makeup on the treated area for at least 48 hours

    • Avoid smoking and alcohol consumptions as they may hinder skin healing

    • Drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet rich in vitamins to enchance recovery

Some peeling or flaking may occur within the first week. Do not pick at peeling skin; let it shed naturally.

Skin improvements become noticeable after 2–3 weeks, with full results visible after 4–6 weeks.
