Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is an innovative and effective treatment in aesthetic medicine and dermatology, leveraging the body’s natural healing mechanisms to improve skin health and combat hair loss. This non-surgical procedure uses concentrated platelets derived from the patient’s own blood, rich in growth factors that stimulate tissue repair, collagen production, and cellular regeneration
What is Plasma and PRP?
Plasma is the liquid component of blood that serves as the medium for cellular components such as red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Platelets, although technically cellular fragments, play a critical role in the body’s natural healing processes.
PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is plasma containing a higher-than-normal concentration of platelets. By isolating and concentrating these platelets, PRP becomes a powerful therapeutic tool for stimulating tissue repair and regeneration.
Autologous PRP:
“Autologous” refers to biological material derived from and used on the same patient. In PRP therapy, the patient is both the donor and the recipient, ensuring safety and compatibility.
PRP enhances the body’s natural ability to heal by delivering these growth factors directly to areas of need.
How Does PRP Work ?
Leading international researchers agree that PRP should be precisely defined. To qualify as PRP, the platelet concentration must be at least three times the physiological levels found in whole blood. The Alocuro PRP system can increase platelet concentrations by up to 10 times, making it an exceptional option for clinical use.
When PRP is injected into the skin layers, it stimulates a local stem cell response. Over the following weeks and months, these stem cells work to:
• Form new collagen structures.
• Promote the development of blood vessels.
• Repair and regenerate damaged skin.
• Reverse and slow the signs of aging.
Blood Collection and Preparation:
A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient.
The blood is centrifuged to isolate platelet-rich plasma.
Application:
PRP is injected into targeted areas of the skin/scalp or applied topically with microneedling to enhance absorption.
Duration: Each session takes 30–60 minutes.
Downtime: Minimal, with most patients resuming daily activities immediately.
Treatment Plan: Typically 3–6 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, with maintenance treatments as needed.

What to expect post injection
The application site may feel as if it has just been injured, potentially with a feeling of subtle soreness, tender to touch and increased warmth. These symptoms can last for up to 2-4 days and then they should ease.
You should be aware that the PRP application is not a “quick fix” and is meant to be used as part of a comprehensive skin rejuvenation program supervised by your GP, specialist or dedicated cosmetic clinic.
As with normal medical guidelines - a healthy diet, minimal caffeine & alcohol and adequate sleep will allow your body the best chance for a good outcome. Individual patient’s healing will progress at different rates depending on their age, general health and skin condition.
For Skin rejuvenation:
Most patients notice improvement in overall skin appearance by Week 4, with further improvements up to Week 12. Patients will usually require up to 3 PRP applications, performed 4 weeks apart.
Thereafter single treatments are recommended every 6 months to maintain results.
After the PRP procedure, it is recommended not to wash your face with cleansers or apply liquid make-up for at least 12 hours post-procedure. If you need to wash your face, please use warm water without soap.
If you require pain relief, please use Panadol or Panadeine only (dose as usual for you)
Please do not use any anti-inflammatory medication (e.g.: Nurofen) or topical gel (e.g.: Voltaren) or oral steroids (e.g.: Prednisone) for 7 days post procedure
For patients who regularly take aspirin, you may resume it 48 hours after the procedure, unless otherwise directed by the attending Doctor for your procedure
Minimal alcohol, coffee, caffeine; and nil supplements that may increase bruising for 2 days post procedure.
Nil exercise that would usually either create a flushed face or excessive facial perspiration for 24 hours
Very rarely, patients can have a significant response to the injected PRP, and local swelling in the under-eye injection area can occur. If progressive swelling occurs after you leave the clinic, apply ice wrapped in a cloth to the area for 5-10minutes up to 3 times/day and sleep with an extra pillow for the first night to help reduce the under eye swelling.
For hair regrowth:
The number of PRP applications will vary depending on the severity of hair loss. A minimum number of 3 PRP treatments is recommended at an interval of 4 to 6 weeks between procedures.
After the third treatment, the treating doctor will assess your progress and then decide on an ongoing treatment program.
After the PRP application to the skin, it is recommended not to wash your hair for at least 6 hours post-procedure.
If you require pain relief, please use Panadol or Panadeine only (dose as usual for you)
Please do not use any anti-inflammatory medication (e.g.: Nurofen) or topical gel (e.g.: Voltaren) for 7 days post procedure
Please do not take any oral steroids such as Prednisone for 7 days post procedure
For patients who regularly take aspirin, you may resume it 48 hours after the procedure, unless otherwise directed by the attending Doctor for your procedure
Although infections caused by the PRP procedure are extremely rare, please, contact Primavera Clinic if you experience progressive swelling after 24 hours, redness, skin oozing/changes, or fever
